Rio Course delays in 2016 Olympic construction

Rio course delays continue to hold up construction on the 2016 Olympic golf course in Rio de Janeiro.  The progress remains way behind schedule at the Reserva de Marapendi development, this highly anticipated design by architect Gil Hanse, has been plagued by delays over land rights creating major construction holdups.  The new course was originally scheduled to be completed by 2014 so that a test tournament currently planned could be held next year. With golf returning to the Olympics for the first time in over 100 years, the IGF had planned this test tournament in Rio at this new venue next year.  Ahead of each gamest the IOC requires local organizers to stage test events pryer to Olympics being held at a given location.  The Rio course delays with construction are between a court case involving the title holder of the property and a developer who claimed legal rights to the land and had his own plans to build houses instead of the golf course. The Rio course delays are not unusual for an Olympic host city the are actually fairly common, deadlines with Olympic sites are most always tight as well as over budget. With all this said the Rio course delays are expected to effect the games in 2016 as for the test tournament plans these may have to be revised and moved back with possible cancelation.
