The Winner Hanse Golf Course Design

After months of waiting for on an answer on who was to design and build the first Olympic golf course in over 100 years, Hanse Golf Course Design is picked by the IOC comity. Hanse and LPGA star Amy Alcott will be teaming up for the 2016 Rio Olympic golf project. Alcott in her carrer has collected a total of 29 professional victories on the LPGA Tour including five major championship victories. Hanse out of Pennsylvania is 48 years old with a portfolio of internationally  known golf courses recognized by both pro and amateur golfers.

The construction on the course, which is set include features and terrain similar to Royal Melbourne in Australia, is planned to begin in October 2012 and be completed by the middle of 2014. Following completion a few tests events are expected in 2015.

The Olympic course is set to host a 72-hole stroke-play event as decide on by the IOC for men and women with 60 players in each field. The course will be built at the Reserva de Marapendi in the city of Barra, witch is located only 3 miles from the athletes’ village and less than 5 miles from the international broadcast and press center.
