Golf was reinstated in the Olympic games after a vote Friday October 10th by the International Olympic Committee.  Not since 1904 will a golf ball be hit as apart of the Olympics, golf is going to be back at the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The format is going to be in a 72-hole stroke-play tournament for men and women, that will each have 60 players in the field.

Padraig Harrington along with the LPGA’s  Michelle Wie addressed the IOC in person before the vote. Michelle talked of taking up the game of golf when she was only 4 years old, but never had thoughts of an Olympic medal until now.  ”I can dream about doing something that neither Tiger nor Ernie [Els] have ever done, and that is to make the final putt to win an Olympic gold medal,” Wie said.
